Marine Fisheries Management Division


The Marine Fisheries Management Division is responsible for the management of marine fisheries resources. It ensures sustainable exploitation of marine fish stocks through the implementation of policies and programmes for the marine fisheries sector, including management of all fishing fleet (canoe, inshore, trawl, and tuna fleets).

This is done by:

  1. Registering and licensing of all semi-industrial and industrial vessels (trawlers and tuna vessels);

  2. Registering of artisanal fleet;

  3. Ensuring that registration numbers are embossed on all canoes;

  4. Promoting co-management of fisheries resources;

  5. Implementing Marine Fisheries Management Plan;

  6. Sensitizing fishers on Fisheries Act, 2002 (Act 625); Fisheries Amendment Act, 2014 (Act 880); and Fisheries Regulations,20l0 (L. I. 1968);

  7. Collation of data on cold store stock;

  8. Collation of data on movement of vessels; and

  9. Monitoring of activities in the marine sector.
