Charles Eghan adjudged 2016 National Best Fisherman
61-year-old Charles Eghan, was adjudged the overall Best Fisherman of the year during the 21st National Farmers Day Celebration held on 5th November in Kintampo. For his prize he took home a brand new JAC 3 Ton Box truck valued at $30,000.
Charles, who is based in Elmina, started fishing at the age of 18 from a small beginning, has strived over the years to establish himself as a major player in the fishing industry. He currently has six semi-industrial vessels and employs a total of 116 workers. He also has three Watsa canoes. In addition to fishing, Charles has diversified into livestock along with pineapple and cassava farming.
He is married with seven children. As an advocate of education in fishing communities, he has set an example by ensuring the education of his been from the primary to the tertiary levels. Also as a believer in social responsibility, he has provided a 16-unit bath house for fishermen and fish processors in Elmina.
